Step preview

  1. Grease and line a clean tart tin with parchment paper
  2. Place shortcrust pastry on a clean lightly floured surface
  3. Roll out until 2mm thick
  4. Transfer pastry to tart tin
  5. Press into the tin
  6. Chill in fridge - 30 min
  7. Attach K Beater
  8. Add vanilla bean pod, caster sugar and cornflour to the Kenwood Bowl
  9. Mix with splashguard fitted until combined - 2 min, Speed 1
  10. Pre-heat oven - 180°C
  11. Add egg and milk to the Kenwood Bowl
  12. Mix with splashguard fitted until well combined - 3 min, Speed 2
  13. Transfer content of Kenwood Bowl to saucepan
  14. Heat until boiling while stirring frequently - medium heat
  15. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly
  16. Retrieve the chilled pastry from the fridge
  17. Pour custard into tart tin
  18. Bake until golden brown - 45 min, 180°C
  19. Remove from oven and let cool
  20. Transfer tart to serving plate
  21. Serve
