Step preview

  1. Preheat the oven - 175ºC
  2. Grease the tin and line with parchment paper
  3. Fit the Creaming Beater
  4. Add the ingredients into the appliance bowl, fit the splashguard
  5. Mix - 2 minutes, speed 2
  6. Then add the following ingredients
  7. Mix – 1 minute, speed 2
  8. Add the next ingredients
  9. Mix – 1 minute, speed 1
  10. Transfer the batter into the traybake tin and level with a spatula
  11. Bake – 15 minutes, 175ºC
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool completely
  13. Now, make the buttercream
  14. Clean the appliance bowl and fit the Creaming Beater
  15. Add the first ingredient into the appliance bowl, fit the splashguard
  16. Mix until light in colour – 3 minutes, speed Max
  17. Then add the following ingredients
  18. Mix – 2 minutes, speed 3
  19. Transfer some of the buttercream into a piping bag and set aside
  20. Now, assemble the cake
  21. Using a round cutter or a paper template, cut the sponge into four circles: 10.5cm, 8.5cm, 5.5cm and 3cm
  22. Add a small dot of buttercream in the centre of a cake board
  23. Place the largest sponge on the cake board and spread with a thin layer of buttercream
  24. Place the next size down of sponge on top
  25. Repeat the layering steps until you have a small four-tiered cake
  26. Pipe the buttercream all around the sides of the cake and smooth out
  27. Chill in the fridge – 20 minutes
  28. Add the remaining buttercream into a piping bag fitted with an open star tip
  29. Pipe the buttercream stars all over the chilled cake
  30. Decorate with sprinkles
  31. Serve
