Currywurst was invented in Berlin in the mid-20th century and has been incredibly popular ever since – it’s estimated that 800 million are sold each year in Germany and it’s believed that the dish was invented as an antidote to the monotony of post-war rations. Currywurst consists of a hot, often grilled bratwurst sausage, doused in a rich, spicy sauce served alongside crispy fries, all covered in a heavy sprinkle of curry powder for good measure. Ensure the bratwurst sausages you use are pre-boiled (most supermarket options usually are) and if not, add the sausages to a large pot of water, bring to a light simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes until completely cooked through.

  4. Heat with splashguard fitted until hot - 1 min, 120°C, Speed OFF
  5. Then add onion to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl
  6. Cook with splashguard fitted until translucent - 4 min, 120°C, Stir 2
  7. Then add garlic clove to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl
  8. Cook with splashguard fitted until translucent - 1 min, 120°C, Stir 2
  9. Then add curry powder, sweet paprika, cayenne pepper and ground cloves to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl
  10. Cook with splashguard fitted until combined - 1 min, 110°C, Stir 2
  11. Then add tomato purée to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl
  12. Cook with splashguard fitted until combined - 2 min, 110°C, Stir 2
  13. Then add ketchup, apple cider vinegar, worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, sea salt and black pepper to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl
  14. Cook with splashguard fitted until thickened - 5 min, 102°C, Stir 2
  15. Transfer mixture to a clean medium bowl
  16. Using a stick blender, blend until smooth
  17. Return the currysauce to the Cooking Chef XL bowl
  18. Cook with splashguard fitted - 15 min, 65°C, Stir 3
  19. Using a sharp knife, lightly score the sausages diagonally 8 times each
  20. Add vegetable oil to a clean frying pan
  21. Heat in frying pan until hot - 1 min, medium heat
  22. Add bratwurst sausage to the frying pan
  23. Fry in frying pan until golden brown - 8 min, medium heat
  24. Transfer the cooked sausages to a clean cuting board
  25. Slice each sausage into 8 pieces and divide the sausages between 6 serving plates
  26. Divide sauce between 6 serving plates
  27. Top with curry powder
  28. Serve
