Currywurst was invented in Berlin in the mid-20th century and has been incredibly popular ever since – it’s estimated that 800 million are sold each year in Germany and it’s believed that the dish was invented as an antidote to the monotony of post-war rations. Currywurst consists of a hot, often grilled bratwurst sausage, doused in a rich, spicy sauce served alongside crispy fries, all covered in a heavy sprinkle of curry powder for good measure. Ensure the bratwurst sausages you use are pre-boiled (most supermarket options usually are) and if not, add the sausages to a large pot of water, bring to a light simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes until completely cooked through.
