Step preview

  1. Make the cake:
  2. Preheat the oven - 180ºC
  3. Grease the cake tins and line with parchment paper
  4. Sift the ingredients into a large bowl
  5. Add the ingredients into the appliance bowl
  6. Then add dry ingredients
  7. Fit the Whisk Tool
  8. Whisk - 3 minutes, speed 3
  9. Divide the cake mix into two prepared tins
  10. Bake until the skewer comes out clean - 20-25 minutes, 180ºC
  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely
  12. Make the buttercream:
  13. Clean the appliance bowl and fit the K-Beater
  14. Add the ingredients into the appliance bowl
  15. Mix, then scrape the sides of the bowl – 2 minutes, speed 3
  16. Mix – 2 minutes, speed 1
  17. Now, assemble the cake:
  18. Trim the cooled sponge layers with a cake leveller or use a bread knife
  19. Place one of the cakes on a cake board and spread with a layer of buttercream
  20. Place on top another sponge layer
  21. Spread a thin layer of buttercream around the top and sides to crumb coat the cake
  22. Chill in the fridge until set – 20-30 minutes
  23. Remove from the fridge and cover the sides and the top of the cake with buttercream
  24. Transfer the remaining buttercream into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip
  25. Pipe rosettes of buttercream around the top of the cake
  26. Hold the cake at an angle over a large bowl and press chocolate sprinkles around the side of the cake
  27. Decorate the top with chocolate sprinkles (optional)
  28. Serve
