This chocolate espresso yule log is a treat for the whole family at Christmas. Serve simply with a dusting of cocoa powder or for a more elaborate look decorate with chocolate shards, chantilly cream and crushed honeycomb pieces.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 180°C
  2. Line a clean baking pan with parchment paper then set aside
  3. Fit whisk tool to kCook bowl
  4. Add egg, caster sugar and vanilla extract to the kCook bowl
  5. Fit kCook bowl to kCook Multi
  6. Attach lid to kCook bowl with filler cap fitted
  7. Mix with filler cap fitted - 7 min, speed 7
  8. Then add plain flour, cocoa powder and baking powder to the kCook bowl
  9. Mix with filler cap fitted - 1 min, speed 4
  10. Transfer content of kCook bowl to baking pan
  11. Spread until level
  12. Bake - 12 min, 180°C
  13. Let cool slightly
  14. Prepare a clean work surface with parchment paper
  15. Turn out sponge onto work surface
  16. Remove
  17. Roll into a log
  18. Let cool and continue
  19. Clean kCook bowl
  20. Fit whisk tool to kCook bowl
  21. Add mascarpone cheese and double cream to the kCook bowl
  22. Fit kCook bowl to kCook Multi
  23. Attach lid to kCook bowl with filler cap fitted
  24. Whisk with filler cap fitted - 1 min, speed 8
  25. Then add icing sugar, instant coffee and cocoa powder to the kCook bowl
  26. Fit max blade to kCook bowl
  27. Mix with filler cap fitted - 15 sec, speed 8
  28. Unroll
  29. Transfer some of the buttercream to cake
  30. Spread thinly until covered
  31. Roll into a log
  32. Transfer cake to serving plate
  33. Transfer the rest of content of kCook bowl to cake
  34. Spread until covered
  35. Dust with cocoa powder
  36. Serve
