Step preview

  1. Line a clean baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Attach Spiral Dough Tool
  3. Add milk, dried yeast, sugar, plain flour, butter, egg and salt to the Kenwood Bowl
  4. Mix then scrape bowl - 5 min, Speed 2
  5. Add unsalted butter to the Kenwood Bowl bit by bit while machine is running
  6. Mix then scrape bowl - 5 min, Speed 2
  7. Cover with kitchen towel
  8. Prove - 1 hr 30 min
  9. Carefully transfer the dough from the Kenwood mixer bowl to a lightly floured work surface
  10. Gently pull the edges into the centre
  11. Roll the dough out to elongate
  12. Divide into 3 equal pieces
  13. Cover with kitchen towel
  14. Let rest - 10 min
  15. Pre-heat oven - 200°C
  16. Roll out each dough piece into a long even rope
  17. Plait the 3 dough ropes
  18. Tuck the ends underneath to secure
  19. Place plait on lined baking sheet
  20. Brush with egg
  21. Sprinkle with pearl sugar
  22. Bake - 30 min, 200°C
  23. To check if the loaf is cooked, gently tap the bottom of the loaf. If the bread sounds hollow it's cooked, place it on a cooling rack. If not place it back in the oven for a few minutes
  24. Serve
