This lovely pink cake roll is the perfect dessert for Valentine’s Day. Light pink sponge cake filled with a sweet cream cheese frosting, this is an elegant and delicious dessert that you and your guests will enjoy. We have used sprinkles to decorate, however, you can use mixed berries or chocolate decorations if you prefer.

Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 180°C
  2. Grease and line a clean swiss roll pan with parchment paper
  3. Add egg yolk, caster sugar, salt and vanilla extract to a clean bowl
  4. Whisk until combined
  5. Add milk, vegetable oil and red food coloring to the bowl
  6. Whisk until well combined
  7. Sift all purpose flour, baking powder and cocoa powder into the bowl
  8. Whisk until combined then set aside
  9. Attach Whisk
  10. Add egg white to the Kenwood Bowl
  11. Mix with splashguard fitted until foamy - 1 min 30 sec, Speed Max
  12. Add caster sugar to the Kenwood Bowl gradually while machine is running
  13. Mix with splashguard fitted until stiff peaks form - 5 min, Speed Max
  14. Transfer meringue to bowl
  15. Fold until combined
  16. Pour mixture into swiss roll pan
  17. Bake until skewer tests clean - 15 min, 180°C
  18. Line a clean work surface with parchment paper
  19. Dust with icing sugar
  20. Transfer cake to work surface
  21. Roll into a log
  22. Let cool completely
  23. Clean Kenwood Bowl
  24. Attach Whisk
  25. Add whipping cream, cream cheese and caster sugar to the Kenwood Bowl
  26. Mix with splashguard fitted until well combined - 2 min, Speed Max
  27. Transfer one third of mixture to piping bag then set aside
  28. Carefully unroll the cooled sponge
  29. Transfer the rest of filling to sponge
  30. Roll into a log
  31. Chill in fridge - 15 min
  32. Retrieve the chilled sponge from the fridge
  33. Trim the edges
  34. Pipe filling onto cake
  35. Decorate with sprinkles
  36. Serve
