Step preview

  1. Pre-heat oven - 170°C
  2. Add whipping cream and milk to a clean saucepan
  3. Heat until warm then set aside - medium-high heat
  4. Attach Whisk
  5. Add egg, golden caster sugar and vanilla extract to the Kenwood Bowl
  6. Mix with splashguard fitted until combined - 2 min, Speed 5
  7. Transfer milk mixture to Kenwood Bowl gradually while machine is running
  8. Mix with splashguard fitted until combined - 30 sec, Speed 2
  9. Transfer content of Kenwood Bowl to saucepan
  10. Cook until thickened while stirring occasionally - 5 min, medium-high heat
  11. Remove the custard from the heat and set aside
  12. Cover with parchment paper
  13. Place hot cross buns on a clean cutting board
  14. Slice into halves
  15. Spread with butter
  16. Transfer bread to baking dish
  17. Sprinkle with marzipan
  18. Brush with marmalade
  19. Pour the custard into the baking dish
  20. Bake - 50 min, 170°C
  21. Remove from oven and let cool
  22. Dust with icing sugar
  23. Serve
