Perfect for brightening up a lunchtime sandwich or scattering over spicy tacos, these quick pickled red onions are just a matter of bringing 5 store-cupboard ingredients together and are ready in an hour (if you can wait that long)! This recipe makes enough for 2 x 500ml jars. Make sure your jars are sterilised by running them through a dishwasher or rinsing them with boiling water and drying them at a very low temperature in the oven.

Step preview

  1. Divide red onion between the clean jars
  2. Attach the Stir Tool
  3. Add red wine vinegar, water, salt and sugar to the Cooking Chef XL Bowl

  5. Cook with splashguard fitted until dissolved - 3 min, 110°C, Stir 1
  6. Pour content of Cooking Chef XL Bowl into 2 jars and let cool
  7. Refrigerate - 1 hr
  8. Serve
