Gyudon is a typical Japanese comfort food, and while the recipe will vary across the country, the core ingredients remain the same: onions, thinly sliced beef, and a sweet and savoury sauce served over steamed rice. Versions of this dish date back to the late 1800s when Western influence introduced more meat into the Japanese diet and has since become a popular fast food due to its cheap and easy preparation.
