Hotteok is a pan-fried pancake filled with brown sugar syrup. It’s one of the most popular street snacks in Korea. It has a crispy outside and inside is filled with sweet gooey indulgence!

Step preview

  1. Attach Dough Hook
  2. Add water, dried yeast, salt, caster sugar and vegetable oil to the Kenwood Bowl
  3. Mix with splashguard fitted - 1 min, Speed 1
  4. Then add all purpose flour to the Kenwood Bowl
  5. Mix with splashguard fitted until dough forms - 2 min, Speed 2
  6. Cover with plastic wrap
  7. Let rest - 1 hr
  8. Mix - 30 sec, Speed Min
  9. Cover with plastic wrap
  10. Let rest - 10 min
  11. Add light brown sugar, ground cinnamon and walnuts to a clean medium bowl
  12. Stir until combined then set aside
  13. Transfer dough to lightly floured surface
  14. Shape into a ball
  15. Divide into 8 equal pieces
  16. Flatten into a circle
  17. Retrieve the walnut filling
  18. Scoop filling onto dough
  19. Fold the edges
  20. Repeat this process with the remaining dough balls
  21. Add vegetable oil to a clean frying pan
  22. Heat until hot - medium heat
  23. Transfer dough to frying pan
  24. Cook until light golden - 30 sec, medium heat
  25. Turn the dough over and press with a spatula to make a thin and wide circle about 10cm wide
  26. Cook until golden brown - 1 min, medium heat
  27. Turn the pancake over again and reduce the heat
  28. Cook - 3 min, low heat
  29. Transfer the pancake to a serving plate
  30. Repeat the same with the remaining dough
  31. Serve
