This recipe makes two beautifully soft white loaves. Perfect for larger families, gifting or make one for now, tightly wrap and seal the other loaf, and freeze for up to six months. If you slice the bread before you freeze it, you can defrost individual slices instead of the whole loaf.

Step preview

  1. Flour two baking trays
  2. Fit the Dough Tool
  3. Add the ingredients into the appliance bowl, fit the splashguard
  4. Knead - 2 minutes, speed 1
  5. Knead - 4 minutes, speed 2
  6. Cover the appliance bowl with kitchen towel
  7. Prove - 1 hour
  8. Transfer the dough from the appliance bowl onto a lightly floured worksurface
  9. Divide the dough into two parts
  10. Take one piece of dough and gently pull the edges into the centre
  11. Roll the dough over and make a loaf shape
  12. Place the shaped dough on the prepared baking tray
  13. Cover with a damp tea towel
  14. Repeat the actions with the other part of dough
  15. Prove – 1 hour
  16. Preheat an oven - 220ºC
  17. Place a small oven proof container with hot water onto the bottom of the oven
  18. Use a sharp knife or blade to make slashes
  19. Bake until hollow sounding when tapped – 25 minutes, 220ºC
  20. Remove from the oven and let cool
  21. Serve
